(KUTV) There is so much interest these days in non-surgical treatments for wrinkles. In our Healthy Living report one of the latest methods said to make the skin look younger. It's called the Plasma Facial. Shauna Lake has more.

Dr. James Pickens, a Bountiful plastic surgeon says Plasma Skin Regeneration is the latest and most revolutionary way to rejuvenate the skin without surgery.

“I think a lot of people will be using this to resurface the skin, a lot of patient and surgeon satisfaction,” said Dr. Pickens.

Instead of lasers this new technology uses blasts of ionized nitrogen plasma gas on the skin. It goes through the top layer of skin and targets deeper layers.

“And will stimulate Collagen and Elastin and tightens the skin, it's pretty specific for wrinkles,” said Dr. Pickens.

It also improves discoloration, such as red blotches or brown spots. It can be used virtually anywhere, including the neck and hands.

Unlike other procedures where the outer layer of skin is peeled away, this technique preserves the outer layer of skin.

“When you can protect the skin it heals much faster so the downtime is much less,” said Dr. Pickens.

It's also not as painful as some other skin rejuvenation techniques.

“It's not bad at all,” the doctor said.

This treatment isn't intended for dark skin types and there can be some swelling and itching for a few days. Doctors say patients will see results right away and will continue to see improvement over time.

“Less invasive, less downtime and costs less. I think it's going to be a real new trend in resurfacing techniques,” said Dr. Pickens.

Usually one treatment is all that's needed. But it isn't cheap.

(A full, highest energy treatment of the full face is $3,500.00 and regional areas such as around the eyes, around the lips, the hands, forearms, neck or chest would range from $900.00-$2,000.00 per area as determined by the physician per treatment. Usually more than 1 treatment is reqired.)
